Parenting Capacity Assessment (PCA)
PCAs are conducted for the purpose of identifying the functional parenting ability of a potential caregiver or active caregiver. PCAs also identify parenting limitations and possible remediation that may assist an individual in acquiring the skills necessary for effective parenting. PCAs are usually conducted under Court Order or in respect to child welfare concerns.

Child Custody/Access Assessment (CCAA)
CCAAs are only initiated on the agreement of all parties and their legal counsel. CCAAs are completed with the intent of assisting parents/caregivers and, where applicable, Family Court, to determine what type of arrangements would best meet the on-going needs of the identified children when their caregivers have determined they are no longer able to reside together as an intact family. The assessment process includes clinical contact with the caregivers and observation of each caregiver with the children. Where appropriate, the children are also interviewed. CCAA assessments are conducted in accordance with the guidelines established by the Ontario Interdisciplinary Association of Custody/Access Assessors. Our staff have considerable experience in conducting court-ordered assessments, as well as assessments initiated on the volition of the parents without Court intervention. Our experience includes CCAAs that involve child protection services, particularly in respect to allegations of parental incest. We provide a full range of specialized assessment services in addition to standard clinical assessments that are involved in all ongoing treatment.See "Assessments Services" for a more detailed description.

Capacity Assessments
Capacity assessments are conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Ontario Substitute Decisions Act (SDA, 1992) by a Designated Capacity Assessor. A CA is required by law for the appointment of a guardian or alternate decision-maker in respect to either Personal Care or Property (i.e. Finances) when individuals are no longer capable of making informed independent decisions. Assessments are also necessary for the revocation of guardianship in the event an alternate decision maker is no longer necessary or desired.

Testamentary Capacity Assessment (TCA)
A testamentary assessment serves to confirm the ability, or lack thereof, of an individual to make out a will/or the ability to appoint someone to take on a guardianship role in respect to themselves. Where the ability of a person to make independent decisions may be in question, it is recommended that a TCA be conducted to ensure that an individual has the mental capacity required to understand and appreciate the significance of their decisions in respect to making requests and designating beneficiaries in the form of a Will. A TCA assessment serves as a means of ensuring that it is unlikely that the decisions made will be revoked if challenged on the basis of mental incapability.

Trauma Impact Assessment
Comprehensive assessments are conducted for the purpose of providing documented expert opinion regarding the extent of harm that an individual may have experienced as a result of specified life events. Impact evaluations are specific to civil actions where individuals are seeking legal recourse for damage/harm they may have experienced. Our office has extensive experience in conducting impact assessments for claims that result from childhood maltreatment by persons in positions of trust/authority and/or various caregiver roles (i.e. parents, foster parents, teachers, clergy, police, correctional officials). Our extensive experience also includes conducting assessments of native populations in Canada's northern regions (e.g. residential schools, clergy abuse). In addition to institutional and caregiver maltreatments we also conduct impact evaluations of trauma arising from motor vehicle accidents, stranger assault, partner abuse, and on-the-job situations (e.g. bank robbery, etc.). Our staff has been qualified at all levels of court re expert opinion evidence on issues of maltreatment and trauma impact.
